Large Construction Projects

Construction has been around for centuries – there are thousands of projects with precious history; some of which are large in size and others which took years to build. Take a look at some of the largest construction projects in the US.

O’Hare Modernization Project

O’Hare Airport is located in the state of Illinois. The project to modernize the airport started in 2005 and finished in 2021; that is 16 years of construction. The project cost $6 billion dollars but brought progressive changes to one of the busiest airports in the United States.

CityCenter – Las Vegas

Taking up almost 17 million square feet of Vegas real estate, CityCenter is the largest privately funded project in American history. The mixed-use complex was first opened in 2009, after being developed by MGM Resorts and Dubai World. CityCenter is an interesting project to talk about due to several deaths and delays during its construction. The project was so big that certain properties had to be changed or completely scrapped, such as The Harmon.

Evergreen Point Floating Bridge

The Evergreen Point Floating Bridge sits across Lake Washington in Seattle. The bridge exceeds 7,700 feet in length, and is the longest and widest floating bridge in the world. The total budget for the bridge was an estimated $4.5 billion.

Evergreen Point Floating Bridge gets its name due to its capability to float on 77 concrete pontoons secured to the bottom of Lake Washington by 58 anchors. The bridge is a great image of what can be accomplished through ingenuity, creativity, and science.

Though these are some of the Largest Construction Projects, and most recent, their size and purpose do not go unnoticed.
