Due to the pandemic, many construction companies are experiencing supply and demand disruptions, making it difficult to establish a relationship or routine with your suppliers. Here are some tips to better manage your supplier relationships during this disruption:

Long Term Agreements

Whenever you create a long term agreement with suppliers, you are also creating a relationship with them. This will create a stronger bond and in most cases, suppliers will be more willing to work with you and your company. In some cases, most suppliers will put companies who have long term contracts first in the supply chain.

See Suppliers as Partners

It is important to view your suppliers as partners. Both companies are benefiting from each other and this should be the outline to all encounters with each other. When you view your supplier as a partner, they will view you as equals and be more willing to work with you. By working together, it can help the supply chain and cut costs.

Contract Clauses

Having a contract will protect both parties involved. This will protect you from legal issues or risk events. Not only that, but a contract will also ensure you get all the supplies you need, in a timely manner at the right cost. Most contracts have a “first priority supplies” clause to help get supplies during disruption.

Supply chain disruptions can be detrimental to construction companies, which is why learning how to manage your suppliers during this can be beneficial. Having agreements, contracts and certain principles will help better manage the supply chain disruptions.
